Norfolk Spring Guide
Today the sun is shining and the sky is a dazzling blue. The clocks will soon go back and with longer days, this is the perfect moment for a Norfolk break and there is so much to do. We’d love to see you.
Bank House is at the centre of fascinating historic King’s Lynn. Lots of hidden courtyards and tucked away alleys to explore, as well as stunning churches, halls and houses (more listed buildings than any other town of its size in Britain), elegant squares and quirky museums. Get a leaflet and guide yourself or join a walk with one of King’s Lynn’s knowledgeable guides.
Take a river trip on restored fishing smack the Baden Powell and see the town from the water as it is meant to be seen.
Visit the famous tulips at Hillington, the only tulip fields open to the public in the UK (dates to be announced in April).
And looking further ahead there are lots of things coming up.
The King’s Lynn Hase Festival will be held the weekend of 14th and 15th June, with parades, activities and events to celebrate the town’s Hanseatic naval heritage.
The World Water Ski championships happen on the Ouse the weekend of 21st and 22nd June, with a grandstand view from Bank House.
Outside the town, Sandringham House reopens shortly, as do the gardens, recently reworked by King Charles. The lovely woods and walks around the house are open to the public, and their dogs, all year round, as is the great gift shop, perfect for royal souvenirs. And there is a tremendous adventure playground.
Don’t forget, we love children and dogs at Bank House.
Houghton Hall opens on 4th May. The most beautiful privately owned house in England (I think) with a totally stunning walled garden (where Anthony volunteers one morning a week, so you might spot him, on his knees) . This year Houghton is hosting the work of sculptor Stephen Cox in the house and grounds. Children will love exploring hidden sculpture installations and you can take a picnic, and your dog (though only in the park). A brilliant day out.
Magnificent Holkham Hall opens at the end of March. Lots of events and things to do, particularly for children. The wonderful parkland is open all year round and you can take your dog.
